Reading Group (Academic Integrity Week)

Reading Group (Academic Integrity Week) Online

Join us for an engaging reading group where we delve into the world of generative artificial intelligence and DeepSeek!

What is the event is about?

With the arrival of DeepSeek, generative artificial intelligence has once again come into the spotlight. We'll discuss the capabilities, applications, and ethical considerations of cutting-edge generative AI. Whether you're just curious about the new technology or you’re a generative AI enthusiast, this reading group is designed for people to come together and learn from each other.

What to expect from the event?

This will be an interactive, discussion run online via zoom. Attendees will discuss the readings that have been provided ahead of the reading group (see below). Discussion questions are also provided to guide the conversation.

Disclaimer: Please note that students are not required to create an account in DeepSeek or download the app. DeepSeek is not approved for use within Australian Government systems due to unacceptable security risks. The Australian government has asked citizens to be very careful while using DeepSeek AI.

Please read/watch before you attend the reading group:

  1. What is DeepSeek and why is it disrupting the AI sector? | REUTERS

  2. 'DeepSeek moved me to tears': How young Chinese find therapy in AI

  3. DeepSeek AI mania takes over China – from prescriptions to parenting and government work | South China Morning Post

Reading Group Discussion Prompts:

  • Re: creativity- Can students and staff alike truly maintain a balance between using generative AI for assistance and upholding their own learning and creativity?  If so what would that look like?

  • Re: expertise- Could the use of generative AI in different academic/professional settings redefine what it means to be "knowledgeable" or "competent" in a field?

  • Re: safety and security- Can generative AI truly create a safe and supportive environment for a person to open up?

This event will not be recorded but if you miss it, don't worry. Check the What's On Calendar for regular events.
