Exhibition: Immaterial Made Tangible

Exhibition: Immaterial Made Tangible In-Person

This exhibition showcases submissions to the One Great Sentence and Blackout Poetry initiatives, created in collaboration with the Library Student Partners.

“One Great Sentence” was run at all Western Sydney University campus libraries. This initiative sought to elevate everyday words as creations and invite reflection. Members of the Western Sydney University community were encouraged to submit their favourite “one great sentence”. At some campuses these were typed using manual typewriters, others were submitted online or via pen and paper. Participants had the option to submit their sentence anonymously or with their name attached. The results were thought provoking, inspiring and touching.

The Blackout Poetry initiative provided students with passages from classical or well-known texts. Black markers were used to black out any words to be excluded, creating a poem or prose from the remainder. Markers could also be used in decorative ways to complement or frame the poem. Many poems were submitted anonymously, however some included the author’s name. Poems were displayed in the campus libraries and this exhibition brings together a selection of these poetic works.

This exhibition runs from 21st October – 19th December in the Penrith Campus Library Gallery Space. Admission is free.
