Generative AI and research Online

Learning Futures, Research Services and WSU Library have been collaborating to offer an exciting university-wide webinar in Generative AI and Research.  We have presenters from WSU and external speakers presenting on this emerging area. 

Can Generative Artificial Intelligence (GAI) give researchers superpowers? Would you like to know more about the implications of GAI and the opportunities and threats it presents to the future of research?

Speakers and topics include:

Professor Kevin Dunn (Pro-Vice Chancellor Research, Western Sydney University) will be opening the webinar, Introductions and Acknowledgement to Country

Dr. Simon Knight (Director of the University of Technology Sydney, Centre for Research on Education in a Digital Society, UTS) is our Keynote speaker and will be speaking on Generative AI and the future of research

Dr. Shantala Mohan (Director, Research Impact and Integrity, Western Sydney University) will be presenting With superpowers comes great responsibility: Ethical use of AI in research

Associate Professor Tomas Trescak (Director of Academic Program Undergraduate ICT, School of Computer, Data and Mathematical Sciences, Western Sydney University) will be presenting on Generative AI services for research and education

Yoshiko Kakita (Product Management Director, Scopus, Elsevier) is the lead developer of the new AI tool and it’s integration with Scopus

Associate Professors Nida Denson (Associate Professor in Sociology, Associate Dean, Higher Degree Research, Deans Unit, School of Social Sciences) and Tamara Watson (Associate Professor, SoSS Cyber Society Research Collaboration) will be delivering their Showcase presentation on Generative AI and research tools at WSU

Dr Sarah Hook (Senior Lecturer in Intellectual Property and Media Law, School of Law, Western Sydney University AND Frank Hill (University Copyright Officer, Office of Executive Director, Library Services) will be speaking on how Generative AI impacts on Copyright

Amy Watson (Principal Customer Success Manager, LinkedIn Learning) will be speaking on Skills and resources for the future of research.
